Yoga & Pilates for Posture and Pelvic Health

lovely side stretch.jpeg

“I attended Monique's Pelvic Health and Posture workshop earlier in the year. I really enjoyed the workshop, it was very informative and easy to understand. I have been able to use the techniques in my daily life. This was a very relaxed and practical workshop. Monique's delivery of information was great and she was happy to answer any questions.

I have held off doing a review as I wanted to see what impact doing this workshop had for me. I'm happy to say the impact has been positive. I find myself correcting my posture and understanding and doing the excercies on a regular basis (with obvious results).”

The breath and exercise practices in yoga are perfect for maintaining your pelvic health. Pelvic health issues are common, but that doesn’t mean they are normal. Many people are suffering in silence with issues that could be resolved or improved. This simple knowledge of breath, movement and alignment is empowering. Men and women of all ages are welcome to attend.

Yoga for Posture and Pelvic Health can help with:

Changes that occur during perimenopause and beyond menopause
Preparing your body for pregnancy or labour Postpartum
Urinary urgency/frequency Incontinence (urinary and fecal)
Prolapse of the bladder, bowel or uterus
Diastasis of the rectus abdominus
Constipation
Back and hip pain

During an Embodi Yoga session you will:

• Move:
Build strength and flexibility with a style of Yoga that incorporates muscles of the pelvic floor.

• Release and Relax
A combination of Yin and Restorative yoga can ease symptoms of urgency, by gently releasing the muscles and fascia of the pelvis. Lengthening the muscles with long hold stretching will enhance flexibility and posture.

• Posture and Alignment
Alignment is more than a well-placed foot in a Warrior Pose. Explores the movements you do throughout the day, such as standing, sitting and getting up and down from the ground. These everyday movements, done mindfully, will support your pelvic health

• Breathe in a way that tones and relaxes the pelvic floor
Learn natural breathing that co-co-ordinates the movement of respiratory diaphragm with the muscles of the pelvic floor, toning and relaxing the pelvic floor all day long.

• Tone and relax the pelvic floor
The muscles, ligaments, and nerves of the pelvic floor act like a hammock to support your abdominal organs. Although unseen, the pelvic floor muscles still need attention and your yoga practice is the perfect time to add in some focused pelvic muscle training while also strengthening and caring for the rest of your body.

Please Note: Yoga for Pelvic Health is one aspect of your overall pelvic care, along with your pelvic health physiotherapist or other health care providers.
